Located on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain between the Adirondack and Green Mountains, Burlington is one of America's most liveable cities. Burlington has a population of about 40,000 and covers 10.26 square miles. Burlington is home to the University of Vermont and a level one trauma center, Fletcher Allen Health Care.
The mission of the Burlington Fire Department is to provide the highest level of life and property safety through the extension of fire prevention, emergency medical services, fire control and public education services.
The Burlington Fire Department operates five engines, one tower ladder, a command vehicle and two advanced life support ambulances. There are 80 career firefighters in the Burlington Fire Department, on three shifts, with a minimum of 20 on duty at all times.

Montpelier is located in a picturesque valley along the Winooski River in Central Vermont. As the nation's smallest state capital, population around 8,000, Montpelier's intimate size and historic neighborhoods make it a wonderful city in which to visit, live, and do business. While best known for its status as Vermont's capital city, Montpelier is also known for its many institutions of higher learning, national insurance company headquarters, and its location in the heart of Vermont ski country.
The Montpelier Fire & Ambulance Department provides a wide variety of services to the community. The most important service is responding to calls for assistance including fires, medical emergencies, vehicle accidents, hazardous materials, and other incidents requiring emergency assistance. Additional services provided include educational and prevention activities such as Captain NoBurn,
tours of the fire station, CPR instruction, taking
blood pressure, first aid classes, providing chimney
cleaning equipment, some inspection services,
assistance with fire drills, and fire extinguisher
demonstrations. The full range of services is

The City of Montpelier participates in mutual aid, both between fire departments and ambulance services.
