FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDICOKLAHOMA CITY
The Oklahoma City Fire Department was once a small volunteer fire company with one donated, hand-drawn wagon housed in a small-framed building. When formed it was the Department’s duty to protect less than 10,000 residents. Today, the responsibility has grown to include over 500,000 residents.
The Department has grown to approximately 1,000 career personnel operating around the clock. Our Department has 35 strategically located fire stations that respond to over 52,000 emergencies per year.
Seventy percent of our runs are some form of medical call -- automobile accidents, industrial accidents, drownings, violence, and other forms of illness or injury. We currently have 20 ALS engine companies in service with plans to add more in the near future. These companies have manual defibrillators and paramedics placed on them and are located in areas where a need has been determined by past emergency responses.
Along with being a member of a great "TEAM" of men and women who serve and protect the community, the OKC Fire Department offers a competitive starting salary. Major life and medical plans are available, 96 hours of paid vacation a year, and you are eligible for retirement after 20 years. You will receive paid training during the entry level Firefighter's Academy that includes fire science, special operations, and medical service training.
You may also be eligible for education incentive, tuition reimbursement and incentive pay.
