The Cleveland Fire Department provides fire suppression and rescue services. EMS is provided by a municipal third service agency (Cleveland EMS).

PARAMEDICSCLEVELAND


Cleveland EMS is staffed with, on average, 300 professionals who run 22 state-of-the-art advanced life support ambulances handling 85,000 to 95,000 emergency calls annually.

The dispatch center is now run locally with certified Emergency Medical Dispatchers trained on a Computer Aided Dispatching system which allows for call prioritizing, pre-arrival instructions, and the tracking of ambulances and support vehicles.

All of the Division’s emergency medical personnel receive rigorous education, training, and performance evaluations to make certain that Cleveland's citizens and visitors receive the best pre-hospital medical care in times of need.

The City of Columbus Division of Fire is divided into five bureaus and employs more than 1,500 sworn and civilian support staff. 

The Columbus Division of Fire operates and maintains:

*A Paramedic/Engine concept in which a trained, fully equipped paramedic is on every engine company.
*Full time, accredited Training Academy.
*Fire Alarm Dispatching Office handling over 138,000 calls a year. *Hazardous Materials Response Team
*The Columbus Fire Department Bomb Squad is the Largest Non Department-of-Defense Bomb Squad in the U.S.

CDOF has 31 Station Houses throughout the City housing 33 Engines, 15 Ladders, 31 EMS (Advanced Life Support Transport Units) , 5 Heavy Rescues, 8 Rescue Boats. Full range of services including inspection, prevention, investigation and community based programs.

The Cincinnati Division of Fire is one of the outstanding fire departments in the Nation. It has kept abreast of all new techniques in fire fighting, fire control and fire prevention. It operates a complete Training Center, a Fire Prevention Bureau and an Arson Squad.

It is the Nation's oldest professional fire department, organized April 1, 1853. Today's C.F.D. consists of more than 785 uniformed men and women staffing: 26 Engines, 13 Ladder Trucks, 1 Heavy Rescue/Haz-Mat unit, 4 ALS Rescue Units, 6 BLS Ambulances, and other special units.

The total area protected is 77.2 square miles with 26 miles of riverfront, and a resident population of approximately 350,000. The Cincinnati Fire Recruit examination process consists of multiple phases.
