FirefighterBoise

Located along the river where the desert meets the Rocky Mountains, Boise is one of America’s most livable and likable cities. With a population of approximately 214,000, Boise offers the culture and entertainment of a large urban area in a place that feels a little like everyone’s hometown. Boise also offers abundant outdoor recreation opportunities.

The Boise City Fire Department has been in existence for well over 125 years, celebrating its centennial birthday in 1976. What began as a small group of 28 men proudly wearing red shirts and leather helmets in this sleepy little frontier town, the Boise City Fire Department has become a full-service provider of emergency services. The Operations division is the heart of emergency response whose primary purpose is to provide a quick and efficient response to emergencies within the city’s 52 plus square mile area. The Operations Division also provides automatic and/or mutual aid to the surrounding fire districts within Ada County.

The Operations division is comprised of management personnel and 180+ line personnel divided into three shifts. Operations division personnel are cross-trained in fire suppression and EMS response. The Operations division staffs eleven fire stations. Stations are strategically located throughout the city to provide fast and efficient service to the citizens within a critical 4 minute average response time. Equipment and staffing include eleven engine companies, two truck companies, one aircraft rescue & firefighting company. One engine company works a dual role as a dive rescue company, another works a dual role as a hazardous materials company, both with additional certified staff placed in various stations on each shift.

The Boise City Fire Department is at the cutting edge of technology in the fire service. This is achieved only because of the commitment and accomplishments of the personnel and management staff of the department to better serve its customers.
