The Ventura County Fire Protection District is comprised of the finest  employees in Ventura County. The Ventura County Fire Department covers is divided into and  protected by five battalions. These battalions are comprised of 32 fire stations, staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Additionally, these fire stations serve the cities of Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Moorpark, Port Hueneme, Ojai, as well as the California State University at Channel Islands, and the unincorporated areas of the County. Stations are staffed by 33 companies, utilizing fire engines (structural and wildland), rescue engines, ladder trucks, and many other types of specialized apparatus. 

In addition to fire, rescue, and medical response, the Bureau of Emergency Services also maintains a Special Operations component, which is responsible for countywide response to emergencies requiring technically skilled operations, called Support Companies, which are stationed strategically throughout the county. Some of the specialized emergency services provided by this unit include hazardous materials response, rescuing victims from swift water and confined spaces, such as collapsed buildings, caves, trench cave-ins, and water rescues. 

The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) division is responsible for providing medical oversight for all facets of the Department’s EMS program. EMS is charged with the training and certification of fire company personnel as Emergency Medical Technicians. Firefighters are also provided with special training in the use of the semi-automatic defibrillator, CPR, multi-casualty incident management, as well as many other EMS related topics. Additionally, EMS is responsible for ensuring the highest level of medical quality control through adherence to high standards and exacting protocols.
